Housing Quality Standards

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) requires that each Section 8 unit be inspected and meet housing quality standards before tenant occupancy and annually or biennially after that. The inspectors at OHDI are trained and certified in HQS, and ensure that both landlords and tenants are protected by conducting a thorough inspection of the Section 8 property.

Roles that we perform include:

Conduct Inspections: Perform initial, annual and special inspection of housing unit to ensure compliance with National Standards for the Physical Inspection of Real Estate (NSPIRE) on Section 8, Public Housing and other subsidized housing units.

Identify Deficiencies: Assess properties for code violations, safety hazards, and maintenance issues.

Report Findings: Results from inspections are entered directly into the database of the housing authority.

Ensure Compliance: Moitor and follow up on required repairs to ensure timely and effective resolution.
